WOMEN'S GOLF PICKED TO FINISH FIRST IN BIG SKY PRESEASON POLL

OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State was selected to finish first at the 2019 Big Sky Women's Golf Championship, it was announced today. The preseason poll was voted on by league head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Hornets garnered eight of the possible 10 first-place votes and finished with 98 total points. Idaho, which claimed last season's team title, was voted second with 93 points. Portland State edged Northern Arizona for third place and Southern Utah completed the top five.

Sacramento State returns four of its five golfers from last year's lineup at the conference tournament. Senior Julia Becker had the highest finish on the team, tying for third place after shooting 73-69-71-213. Nishtha Madan tied for ninth place and Sofie Babic and Corinne Viden tied for 20th.

The Hornets played arguably the toughest schedule in the Big Sky during the fall. The team competed in four events which were held in Michigan, Colorado, Virginia and Hawaii and recorded a pair of top five finishes. Babic averaged 73.5 in 10 rounds to lead the team and was one of four to finish with a stroke average under 75.

Sacramento State will next compete at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State on Feb. 25-26. The event is the first of six tournaments during the spring. The Big Sky Championship will take place at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. from April 19-21.
