LONG BEACH, Calif. — Sofie Babic shot a 1-over par round of 73 and Nishtha Madan tied for fifth place to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team at The Gold Rush on Tuesday. The Hornets finished tied for fifth place in the 14-team field. The team was tied with fellow Big Sky member Idaho for fifth place and was 16-shots of the pace of tournament champion Georgia.

Nishtha Madan recorded her second top five finish of her career. The sophomore shot 76 on Tuesday and finished with a total of 73-72-76-221. Madan opened the final round with a birdie on the par-5 fourth but found her self at 1-over after birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-3 ninth. A birdie on the par-4 11th took her back to even but was immediately trailed by a double bogey on the par-3 12th. She had seven pars and two birdies over her final nine holes.

Babic also started with a birdie during her best round of the tournament. The sophomore birdied the par-4 fifth and was 1-over through 10 holes after a pair of bogeys on Nos. 7 and 14. She dropped back to even with birdie on the par-4 16th before a bogey on the par-4 first placed her at 1-over for the rest of the round. Her total of 77-76-73-226 tied her for 22nd place in the tournament.

Freshman Corinne Viden tied for 27th at 77-72-78-227. Viden's third round featured one birdie (par-4 11th) and seven bogeys.

Senior Astha Madan ranked second on the team during the final round with a 3-over par 75. Madan bogeyed three of her first six holes but played the final 12 at even par. She had a birdie on the par-3 17th and 10 pars during the stretch with the exception coming on the first hole where she bogeyed. Madan tied for 37th place overall at 75-79-75-229.

Julia Becker tied for 44th place at 77-77-76-230. Becker was even through her first seven holes with one birdie and one bogey. Consecutive bogeys on the 13th and 14th took her to 2-over and she eventually moved to 4-over before parring her final four holes.

Idaho's Sophie Hasuman was the medalist at 75-69-68-212. Hausman was three shots ahead of the closest competitor.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Bruin Wave Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif. on Feb. 26-27.
