WOMEN'S GOLF SURGES INTO FIRST PLACE TIE AT BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIP

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Sacramento State women's golf team moved into a tie for first place following the second day of the Big Sky Conference Championship at Ocotillo Golf Resort on Monday. The Hornets shot 301, which was the lowest total by any team, and are now even with Portland State at 606 heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Rockelle Sande helped Sacramento State's charge with a career best round of 72. Sande entered her final hole at 2-over but was able to eagle the 479-yard par-5. Her two-day total of 76-72-146 places her in a tie for third place. Sande played her first nine holes at 2-over before she birdied the par-4 10th. Three more pars came ahead of a bogey on the par-4 14th. The sophomore moved to 1-under with a birdie on the par-3 16th but returned to 2-over with a bogey on No. 17.

Senior Lisa Persson is also in the top 10 as she is tied for eighth at 75-76-151. Persson bogeyed the first hole and later bogeyed the fifth to stand at 2-over before a birdie on the par-5 sixth. On the back side of the course, she had three bogeys and six pars to conclude her day at 4-over.

Junior Sagee Palavivatana posted the second best score on the team during the day with a round of 75. Palavivatana had a tumultuous start to her round with two birdies, three pars, three bogeys and a double bogey over her first nine holes. Her back nine featured a birdie on the par-5 11th, seven pars and a bogey.

The final score of the day came from freshman Chloe Bartek who shot 78. Bartek had a birdie on the par-3 fourth and seven pars during her round. Her total of 78-78-156 has her tied for 21st.

Senior Tiffany Nichols is tied for 13th after shooting 75-80-155. On Monday, Nichols was 3-over at the midway point of her round but had bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 and double bogeys on Nos. 14 and 15 to jump to 9-over. She earned a shot back with a birdie on No. 18.

Portland State's A Ram Choi remained the leader at 70-74-144. Choi holds a 2-stroke edge of Kaitlen Prasons of Northern Arizona (72-74). Sande and Southern Utah's Taylor Viquelia are tied for third.

Sacramento State will be in the final five pairings of the day on Tuesday beginning at 8:45 a.m.
