WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES MATADOR INVITATATIONAL IN SIXTH PLACE

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Lisa Persson shot a 2-over par round of 74 to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team in the final round of the Matador Invitational on Tuesday at Wood Ranch Golf Club.

Sacramento State totaled 315 during the final round and finished the tournament in sixth place at 303-319-315-937. Host Cal State Northridge led wire-to-wire to win the event with a total of 294-306-297-887. The Matadors' closest competition was BYU who finished 36 strokes back.

Persson had the highest individual finish for the Hornets. The senior was 14th overall at 77-80-74-231. On Tuesday, she began on the 10th hole with a birdie on the par-4. She then bogeyed three of the next four before a run of four consecutive pars. After making the turn at 2-over, she birdied the par-4 first and bogeyed the par-5 second. Consecutive birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 dropped her to even but she double bogeyed the par-4 fifth. Two more pars led to a birdie on the par-4 eighth and bogey on the par-4 ninth.

Sagee Palavivatana was 20th overall after recording rounds of 73-79-81-233. The junior played her first nine holes (Nos. 10-18) at 6-over with four bogeys and a double bogey. On the front side of the course she had a birdie on the par-3 seventh, four pars and four bogeys.

Freshman Chloe Bartek had the second lowest round by a Hornet on Tuesday and tied for 25th overall. Bartek shot 75-85-77-237 during the event. In her third round, Bartek sandwiched a birdie on the par-4 12th between four bogeys on her first five holes and stood at 5-over following a bogey on the par-4 first. She ended her round with birdies on Nos. 4 and 9 but also had two bogeys in that stretch.

Natalie Bodnar finished in 29th place at 78-79-83-240. Bodnar's final round comprised of 10 pars, six bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey. Tiffany Nichols was 42nd  with rounds of 81-81-88-250.

Rockelle Sande competed as an individual and tied for 34th at 88-79-77-244.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz., Mar. 1-2.
