WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES EIGHTH AT ROSE CITY COLLEGIATE

AURORA, Ore. — Lisa Persson and Chloe Bartek shot 73 and 75, respectively to lead Sacramento State during the final round of rain-shortened Rose City Collegiate on Tuesday at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

Those performances helped the Hornets move up one spot in the standings, finishing in eighth place and second among the six Big Sky Conference teams in the field. The Hornets totaled 313-307-620 and ended 34 strokes behind Oregon State which won the team title at 293-293-586. Gonzaga and UC Irvine each shot 600 to tie for second.

Tuesday provided a break from the strong winds which plagued play on Monday but the course remained wet with rain throughout the day and temperatures in the 40s. Those conditions led the cancellation of the practice round on Sunday and the opening round on Monday.

Persson finished the final round at 1-over par which tied for the third-lowest of the day. That score was eight stokes better than her opening mark and helped her tie for 20th place at 81-73-154. Persson was also one of just two golfers in the tournament to record an eagle in the two rounds.

Rockelle Sande followed her team-leading 75 on Monday with an 80 in the second round to tie for 25th place.

Tiffany Nichols and Chloe Bartek tied for 41st with 36-hole totals of 158. Nichols shot 76-82 and Bartek, who was playing near her hometown of Vancouver, Wash., shot 83-75.

Sagee Palavivatana completed the lineup for Sacramento State at 81-79-160 to tie for 52nd.

Anico Yoo of Oregon State maintained her individual lead to become the medalist. Yoo shot 69-73-142 to edge UC Irvine's Luciane Lee by one stroke (71-72-143).

Sacramento State will next compete at the SCU Colby Invitational in San Jose, Calif., on Oct. 21-22.
