OGDEN, Utah — After shooting a 1-under par 71, junior Lisa Persson was named the Big Sky Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, it was announced today.
Persson closed the Fresno State Lexus Classic with a 71 on Tuesday. The score tied for her second lowest round of the year and helped the Hornets move up five spots in the team standings.
Starting on the 10th hole, Persson immediately birdied the par-4 10th before back-to-back bogeys. A birdie on the par-5 13th returned her to even where she remained until bogeying the par-3 17th. Seven consecutive pars preceded a birdie on the par-4 seventh, a par on No. 8, and a birdie on the par-4 ninth. She finished the tournament tied for 41st with a 54-hole total of 84-77-71-232.
Persson is tied for the team lead with a stroke average of 77.45 in 20 rounds. She was the medalist at the Cal Poly Firestone Grill Invitational during the fall and also tied for sixth at the SCU Colby Invitational.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Championships in Chandler, Ariz., beginning on Sunday, April 21. The 54-hole tournament will feature singles rounds on Sunday-Tuesday.
