Trio Helps Women's Golf Surge at Colby Invitational

SOUTH SAN JOSE, Calif. — With rounds of 75 from Lisa PerssonTiffany Nichols and Kerica Brakel, the Sacramento State women's golf team improved its team score by 15 strokes during the final round of the SCU Colby Invitational.

The Hornets, who shot 329 in the opening round on Monday and were in 11th place, totaled 304 on Tuesday to finished tied for eighth. The team's second round score was tied for the third lowest of the day. Ball State won the team title with a total of 605. Fellow Indiana university IUPUI was second at 609.

Persson had the highest overall finish for Sacramento State, tying for sixth place with rounds of 74-75-149. The junior has had the best score on the team in each event during the fall.

Nichols tied for 18th at 80-75-155. Sophomore Lexie Hall and Brakel each tied for 47th. Hall had rounds of 86-79-165 while Brakel had the most significant improvement taking 15 strokes off her first round of 90.

Sacramento State also had several golfers competing as individuals. Among those were sophomore Sagee Palavivatana who shot 79-77-156 to tie for 20th. Nicollete Bondura tied for 21st at 78-79-157.

The Hornets travel to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational beginning on Oct. 30.
