RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – The Sacramento State women''s novice lightweight four placed first while the novice four placed fourth in their respective grand finals at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (PCRC''s) Saturday at Lake Natoma. The novice four and novice lightweight four were the only events the Hornets competed in at the regatta.In the novice lightweight four grand final, the Hornets crossed the 2,000-meter finish line with a time of 8:31.8, beating second-place UC San Diego (8:35.1) by more than three seconds.
In the novice four grand final, USC placed first with a time of 7:52.9, followed by San Diego State (8:04.1), UC San Diego (8:04.5), Sacramento State (8:07.1), Western Washington (8:22.0) and Cal (8:28.9). The Hornets finished fifth in the same event at last year''s PCRC''s.
Sacramento State used the following novice lightweight four lineup (Heather Pryor at bow, Erin Gordon at two, Allison King at three, Coralie Wilhite at stroke and Leia Hawley at coxswain) and novice four lineup (Kira Morrison at bow, Lauren Heselbarth at two, Shannon Wagner at three, Sarah Karling and Christina True at coxswain).
In other women''s grand finals, Stanford (7:15.0) placed first in the varsity lightweight eight, San Diego State (7:48.6) won the open four, Cal was victorious in both the open eight (7:14.5) and second novice eight (7:21.8), and UC San Diego (8:02.0) won the varsity lightweight four.
The PCRC''s are open to all schools in the West Region, which includes any rowing institution located in the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado and Arizona. A total of 16 schools were represented at today''s regatta.
