ROWING FALLS TO STANFORD AND UCLA AT THE STANFORD INVITATIONAL

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women’s varsity eight lost in dual-meet rowing action to both Stanford and UCLA Saturday afternoon at the Stanford Invitational.

The Hornets lost the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight competitions against Stanford, before falling later in the day to UCLA in the varsity eight and novice eight competitions. The Hornets defeated UCLA in the second varsity eight competition marking the team’s only victory of the day.

Against Stanford, the fourth-ranked Cardinal varsity eight raced to a winning time of 6:40.2 over 2,000 meters, follwed by the Hornets (7:13.4). Stanford’s second varsity eight posted a winning time of 6:59.7, while the Hornets recorded a time of 7:23.8. The Cardinal (7:28.9) also won handily over Sacramento State (7:57.6) in the novice eight competition.

Against UCLA, the Bruins (6:57.9) finished 15 seconds faster than Sacramento State (7:12.9) in the varsity eight competition. The Hornets'' second varsity eight raced to yet another victory (7:24.5-7:32.2) as the team’s only dual-meet loss of the season came earlier in the day against Stanford. The Hornets’ second varsity eight now owns a dual-meet record of 6-1 while the varsity eight dropped to 5-4 with today’s losses.

In the novice eight competition, UCLA "A" rowed to a winning time of 7:09.5, followed by UCLA "B" (7:41.0) and Sacramento State (7:42.8).

Sacramento State used the following varsity eight lineup for today’s competitions: Chanel Patterson at bow, Brittney Claycamp at the two seat, Laura Harder at three, Jennifer Boyer at four, Lauren Coats at five, Stephanie Brow at six, Katie Litvinchuk at seven, Sarah McKenzie at stroke and Christy Clifton at coxswain. Coats’ appearance in the varsity eight was her first since the 2001 season.

The Hornets’ second varsity eight lineup consisted of Kira Morrison at bow, Ashley Carl at two, Steffanie Jakovac at three, Erika Bracy at four, Sara Crain at five, Rebecca Hurtt at six, Adelle Reimer at seven, Megan Foley at stroke and Cecilia Vina at coxswain.

Sacramento State returns to action next Saturday, April 26, as the team hosts the Stanford Lightweights at Lake Natoma
