FOSTER CITY, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women’s rowing squad placed first in two of its three races at the Head of the Lagoon Sunday morning at Leo J Ryan Park.
Sunday’s racing took place on a five-kilometer course with a time trial format. Sacramento State competed three boats in the collegiate novice eight event (10-boat field), one entry in the collegiate pair (six-boat field) and one in the open pair (1-boat field). The Hornets placed first, second and seventh, respectively in the collegiate novice eight field, first in the open pair, and fifth in the collegiate pair.
In the collegiate novice eight race, the Hornets’ A boat placed first with a time of 20:56, followed by Sacramento State B (21:23), Humboldt State (22:04) and Stanford (22:07) to round out the top four places.
In the collegiate pair, entries from Saint Mary’s posted the top four times followed by fifth-place Sacramento State (25:45) and sixth-place Sonoma State (25:51). Saint Mary’s B boat had the fastest time in the race at 24:04.
In the open pair, Sacramento State crossed the finish line with a time of 22:29.
The Head of the Lagoon wraps up Sacramento State’s fall schedule, and the Hornets do not compete again until they scrimmage Cal on March 2, and open the spring season on March 16 at the Sacramento State Invitational.
