ROWING CONCLUDES FALL SEASON WITH FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT THE HEAD OF THE LAKE
11/11/2007
SEATTLE – The Sacramento State women’s rowing team placed fifth out of eight teams in the Open Eight event at the Head of the Lake Sunday morning at the Lake Washington Rowing Club.
The Head of the Lake, which the Hornets competed in for the first time ever, is the largest fall rowing regatta west of the Mississippi with 2,500 rowers and 500 boats competing in 57 separate events.
On a shortened course, Sacramento State finished with a time of 7:19.18 over approximately 2,200 meters, barely trailing Oregon State’s fourth place time of 7:18.77. Rounding out the top three finishers in the eight-boat field were Washington State (7:02.72), Victoria Rowing Club (7:04.02) and Gonzaga (7:16.40). Places 6-8 in the race each trailed the Hornets by more than 18 seconds.
Sacramento State did not compete in any other event at the regatta besides the Open Eight.
The Head of the Lake marks the final fall regatta of the 2007-08 rowing season as the team will not return to the water again until early March.
SACRAMENTO STATE LINEUP: Erin DeGoede at coxswain, Aimee Chenard at stroke, Kellie Cook at seven, Holly Hopkins at six, Rachel Stewart at five, Anne Morrison at four, Michelle McMullen at three, Ashley Loucks at two and Ruthie Van Esso at bow.
