ROWING WRAPS UP COMPETITION AT THE HEAD OF THE AMERICAN

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Sacramento State women’s rowing team placed sixth in both the Collegiate Eight (in a 17-boat field) and the Collegiate Novice Eight (in a 15-boat field) to highlight its day at the Head of the American on Saturday afternoon at Lake Natoma.

The racing took place over a three-mile course with a time trial start format. Sacramento State competed two boats in the Collegiate Eight event, placing sixth and tied for ninth in the 17-boat field. Cal’s A boat finished with a first-place time of 17:40, followed by Cal B (17:50), Gonzaga (17:52), Stanford (18:09), UC Davis (18:17) and Sacramento State’s A boat (18:20) to round out the top six finishers. The Hornets’ B boat tied for ninth with Long Beach State as both boats finished with a time of 19:01.

In the Collegiate Novice Eight, Sacramento State finished ahead of every non-Pacific 10 Conference squad. USC took first place with a time of 19:05, followed by Stanford (19:26), Cal  A (19:42), Cal B (20:10), USC B (21:06) and Sacramento State (21:08) to round out the top six finishers in the 15-boat field.

The Hornets also competed in the Collegiate Four, placing 15th with a time of 21:43. USC’s A boat won the competition with a time of 18:56.

Sacramento State has just two regattas remaining on the fall schedule, comprised of the Newport Fall Regatta on Nov. 4, and the Head of the Lake in Seattle on Nov. 11.
