ROWING’S TOP TWO BOATS SHINE IN VICTORY OVER SAN DIEGO STATE

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Sacramento State’s varsity eight and second varsity eight both posted sub 6:52 times over 2,000 meters on the way to victories over San Diego State Sunday morning at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.
The Hornets’ top boat (varsity eight) finished with a season-best time of 6:47.7, followed by San Diego State’s time of 6:53.3. Sacramento State improved its dual-meet record this season to 8-0, and extended its winning streak to 30 consecutive duals dating back to 2003.
The second varsity eight also posted its fastest time of the season with a 6:51.6, followed by San Diego State (6:52.0) and Sacramento State’s B boat (7:14.8). The Hornets’ JV8 improved to 4-0 in duals this year and 14-1 dating back to 2004.
The Hornet’s novice eight boat’s winning streak was snapped at 24 straight, as San Diego State crossed the finish line first with a winning time of 7:08.8, followed by the Hornets (7:14.8). Sacramento State’s novice eight hadn’t lost since 2004 prior to today.
Sacramento State also won the varsity four competition with a time of 7:51.7, followed by San Diego State (7:57.5) and Sacramento State B (8:01.9).
In the novice four competition, San Diego State’s A boat won with a time of 8:14.5, followed by Sacramento State (8:31.4) and San Diego State B (8:41.2).
The Hornets do not compete again until Saturday, April 7, when the team hosts UC Davis. Sacramento has defeated UC Davis for the Jean Runyon Cup each of the last eight years.
