RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s rowing team swept the varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four, lightweight four and novice four competitions Saturday morning at the Sacramento State Invitational on Lake Natoma.The Sacramento State Invitational featured the Hornets, Humboldt State, Sonoma State, Saint Mary''s and Cal''s lightweight crew. The Hornets won each of the six competitions by at least 11 seconds, including a 16.7-second victory in the varsity eight race. As a team, Sacramento State has fielded boats in 11 different races this year, and has posted an 11-0 record during those competitions.
The Hornets'' varsity eight crossed the 2,000-meter finish line with a winning time of 6:53.0, followed by Saint Mary''s (7:09.7), Humboldt State (7:16.2) and Cal Lightweights (7:18.8). In the second varsity eight competition, Sacramento State, which has not lost a dual meet since the 2003 season, posed a winning time of 7:04.8, followed by Humboldt State (7:41.6).
In the varsity four, Sacramento State "A" won with a time of 7:35.5, followed by Saint Mary''s (7:46.9) and Sacramento State "B" (7:50.7) rounding out the top three finishers. In the lightweight four, the Hornets (7:59.6) posted an easy victory over Humboldt State (8:40.9).
In the novice eight competition, Sacramento State rowed to a time of 7:08.3, followed by Sonoma State (7:24.7) and Humboldt State "A" (7:36.0) to round out the top three. The novice four race saw the Hornets cross the finish line with a time of 8:06.3, followed by Sonoma State "A" (8:23.7) and Cal Lightweights "A" (8:33.8) to round out the top three boats.
Sacramento State returns to the water next weekend (March 19-20) as the team hosts the WCC Challenge (featuring Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State and San Diego) at the CSUS Aquatic Center.
