ROWING FINISHES WITH A SECOND AND FOURTH-PLACE FINISH AT THE PCRC’s

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – The Sacramento State women’s varsity lightweight four won a silver medal while the novice four placed fourth in their respective grand finals at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (PCRC’s) Saturday at the CSUS Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.

The varsity lightweight four and novice four were the only events in which the Hornets competed on Saturday. Sacramento State’s novice four also placed fourth in last year’s Pacific Coast Rowing Championships.

In today’s varsity lightweight four grand final, UC Santa Barbara completed the 2,000-meter course with a first-place time of 8:09.5, followed by Sacramento State (8:13.0) and Cal’s Lightweights (8:21.9).

In the novice four competition, Sacramento State won its morning heat with a time of 8:08.1 before assuming lane two in the afternoon grand final. That grand final saw Cal’s “B” boat crossing the finish line with a winning time of 7:51.8, followed by Cal “A” (7:59.9), San Diego State (8:03.1), Sacramento State (8:11.2), UCLA (8:23.6) and Saint Mary’s (8:29.9).

In other women’s grand finals, Stanford won the varsity lightweight eight competition with a time of 7:04.3, Seattle Pacific (7:45.1) placed first in the open four, Cal’s Lightweight crew (7:35.6) won the open eight, and UC San Diego (9:49.7) won the single scull.

The Hornets used the following novice four lineup: Teresa Bitcon at bow, Ashley Borelli at the two seat, Catherine Woerner at three, Janine LaCrosse at stroke and Liz Crettol at coxswain.

Sacramento State’s varsity lightweight four consisted of Lindsey Wade at bow, Jenna Duale at the two seat, Ashley Wayman at three, Coralie Wilhite at stroke and Christy Clifton at coxswain.

Past Hornets also fared well at the PCRC’s, including Heather Watson (lettered from 1997-99) who easily won the women’s open single scull with a time of 8:51.5.

A Sacramento State alumni boat won the bronze medal in the women’s open eight category. That boat featured Cassandra Cunningham, Stephanie Good, Michelle Irvine, Elaine Aber, Alicia Weber, current assistant coach Carrie Hagen, Tammy Sandow, and current Hornet rowers Jackie Seich and Megan Foley.

The PCRC''s is open to all schools in the West Region, which includes any rowing institution located in the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado and Arizona. A total of 20 schools were represented in today’s regatta.
