RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s rowing team opened its spring schedule in victorious fashion as the varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four, varsity lightweight four and novice four each posted victories in their respective races Saturday morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center.The Hornets'' varsity eight crossed the 2,000-meter finish line with a time of 6:59.1, followed by Stanford’s lightweight eight (7:13.0), Humboldt State (7:23.0) and Cal’s lightweights (7:47.8).
Sacramento State''s second varsity eight rowed to a winning time of 7:08.3, followed by second-place Humboldt State (7:31.7).
In the novice eight competition, the Hornets “A” boat (7:37.2) beat out Cal’s Lightweights (7:43.9), Stanford’s Lightweights (7:49.6), Humboldt State (7:56.0), Sacramento State “B” (8:09.7) and Sonoma State (8:10.7). In the varsity lightweight four competition, Sacramento State raced to a winning time of 8:01.1, followed by Cal Lightweights “A” (8:19.6), Cal Lightweights “B” (8:20.7), Humboldt State (8:35.9) and Cal Lightweights “C” (8:40.0).
Sacramento State’s varsity four raced to a winning time of 7:36.3, followed by Sacramento State “B” (7:44.5) and Saint Mary’s (7:50.1) to round out the top three places.
Sacramento State''s novice four “A” boat rounded out the sweep with a winning time of 8:15.3, followed by Sacramento State “B” (8:17.3), Humboldt State “A” (8:29.6), Saint Mary’s (8:31.7), Humboldt State “B” (9:00.9), Sonoma State (9:15.2) and Cal’s Lightweights (10:30.7).
The Hornets return to the water next Saturday, March 6, as the team hosts Santa Clara for a dual meet.
