SAN DIEGO - The Sacramento State women's varsity eight recorded a
sixth-place finish in the Petite Final of the Whittier Cup at the San
Diego Crew Classic Sunday afternoon in Mission Bay.
The Hornets crossed the 2,000-meter finish line with a time of
7:24.73, over 14 seconds behind first-place Washington State
(7:10.22). Stanford (7:13.34) finished second in the race followed by
San Diego State (7:21.41), Oregon State (7:21.86), Duke (7:23.36),
Sacramento State and Villanova (7:32.69).
USC was crowned champions of the Grand Final, finishing with a time
of 6:52.51. The Trojans were followed by Washington (6:53.02),
Virginia (7:06.63), Cal (7:06.98), Clemson (7:13.83), Notre Dame
(7:17.42) and Texas (7:17.64).
The Hornets qualified for the Whittier Cup for the first time in
school history after being crowned Cal Cup champions at last year's
San Diego Crew Classic.
Sacramento State returns to the water next week as it competes at the
Stanford Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 21-22.
