The Hornets' novice eight raced to a winning time of 7:07.2, over 24 seconds faster than San Diego State
GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women’s rowing squad was victorious in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four competitions Saturday morning against San Diego State at a rain-soaked Sacramento State Aquatic Center.
Dealing with rain, 10-12 mile per hour cross headwinds, and water that was running at 25,000 cubic feet per second, the Hornets won all four of the day’s races by at least six seconds.
Using a boat that consisted of two novice members (Antonia Dendrinos and Julia Lathrop) and another that was racing in the varsity eight for the first time (Sadeeka Dosu), the Hornets’ top boat posted a winning time of 6:38.2 over 2,000 meters. San Diego State’s time of 6:44.8 was more than six seconds behind Sacramento State’s victorious time.
In the second varsity eight, Sacramento State posted a winning time of 6:44.8, followed by San Diego State’s time of 7:02.0. The novice eight saw the Hornets’ A boat finish with a time of 7:07.2, followed by San Diego State (7:31.8) and Sacramento State’s B boat (8:11.7).
The Hornets’ varsity four, which consisted entirely of novice rowers who also competed with the novice eight, finished with a first-place time of 7:35.0, followed by San Diego State’s time of 8:04.5. Rowers Alyssa Padberg, Jessica Smith, Morgan Stewart and Karoline Sly competed with both the novice eight and varsity four.
Sacramento State returns to the water in two weeks when the team competes at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 2-3.
