RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s rowing team opened its spring schedule in victorious fashion as the varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight each posted wins in their respective heats Saturday morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center.

The Hornets'' varsity eight beat Humboldt State, Saint Mary''s and Cal''s lightweight crew handily with a time of 7:07.0 over the 2,000-meter course. Humboldt State finished second with a time of 7:35.2 followed by Sacramento State''s second varsity eight (7:41.9), Saint Mary''s (7:54.2) and Cal (7:59.5).

Sacramento State''s varsity eight lineup consisted of Alicia Weber at bow, Ashley Strachan at the two seat, Erika Bracy at three, Veronica Karpinski at four, Lauren Coats at five, Megan Warren at six, Megan Spitze at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain.

In the varsity four, the Hornets finished with a time of 8:02.2 followed by Saint Mary''s (8:28.7), Humboldt State (8:58.6), Cal State Maritime (9:08.0) and Mills College (9:14.2). The four''s lineup consisted of Weber at bow, Karpinski at two, Bracy at three, Boynton at stroke and Hart at coxswain.

In the novice eight, the Hornets first-place time was 7:40.9 followed by Saint Mary''s (8:04.4) and Cal (8:17.8) rounding out the top three.

The Hornets race again in three weeks as they take on Santa Clara in a dual meet at the CSUS Aquatic Center on Saturday, March 24.
