HOPKINS RECEIVES ALL-WEST REGION ACCOLADES

6/10/2009

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State junior Holly Hopkins was named second team all-West Region, it was announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

Hopkins earned all-region honors for the first time, and becomes the 11th Hornet to receive the honor since the program gained intercollegiate status in 1995. The all-region award recognizes outstanding performances from rowers from the five Div. I regions, and Hopkins was one of just 22 student-athletes to be honored as first or second team selections from the West Region.

Last week, Hopkins was a recipient of the National Scholar-Athlete Award for the second straight year, an award which is given to rowers with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.

This season, Hopkins competed in the stroke seat with the Hornets' varsity eight in every race, helping lead the team's top boat to a 10-4 dual-meet record, a silver medal at the WIRA Championships, and a victory over Causeway rival UC Davis.

The Davis, Calif., native has rowed with the varsity eight in every spring race of her three-year career and is the only Hornet to appear in every race with the team's top crew over that span. During her three years in the Green and Gold, she has been asked to sit in the two, four, six and stroke seats with the varsity eight.
