ROWING’S NOVICE FINISHES EIGHTH AT THE NEWPORT AUTUMN ROWING FESTIVAL

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Sacramento State women’s rowing team placed eighth out of 21 boats in the Women’s Novice Eight event at the 21st-annual Newport Autumn Rowing Festival Sunday afternoon at the Newport Aquatic Center.

The Hornets only competed a novice eight in this year’s regatta. Sacramento State’s novice finished the 2.7-mile course with an eighth place time of 18:49, trailing first-place Stanford A (16:33), San Diego State (17:31), USC (18:07), Orange Coast College A (18:07), UCLA (18:27), Orange Coast College B (18:29) and Stanford B (18:42).

The Newport Autumn Rowing Festival marks the second and final regatta of the fall season for Sacramento State. After a scrimmage against Cal on Feb. 28, the Hornets open the spring season at Santa Clara on Saturday, March 7. Sacramento State has won the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) team title twice in the last three years and five times in the last 10 years.
