ROWING'S VARSITY EIGHT FINISHES SECOND AT THE HEAD OF THE AMERICAN

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's rowing team finished second in a field of 20 boats in the open eight competition at the Head of the American Saturday morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

The Hornets finished the three-mile course in a time of 18:13, five seconds behind first-place Stanford (18:08). Cal "A" (18:15), San Diego State (18:25) and Cal "B" (18:26) rounded out the top five. The Hornets used a lineup that consisted of Alicia Weber at bow, Veronica Karpinski at two, Megan Spitze at three, Ashley Strachan at four, Tammy Forbes at five, Megan Warren at six, Sara Schreiner at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain.

In the women's lightweight four, Sacramento State took first-place honors with a time of 23:44, followed by UC San Diego (25:08) and Cal (26:55).

The Head of the American marked Sacramento State's varsity crew's final regatta of the fall season as the team does not compete again until a three-team race on March 3. The novice squad is back in action on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Sacramento State Novice Invitational at the Aquatic Center.
