ROWING BEGINS 2007-08 SEASON WITH A PAIR OF SILVER MEDALS AT THE HEAD OF THE PORT

10/14/2007

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento State women’s rowing squad kicked off the 2007-08 season by winning silver medals in both the open pair and open four events Sunday morning at the Head of the Port.

Sacramento State competed boats in the open eight, open four and open pair events, and each race was five kilometers long. In the open eight, Sacramento State fielded two boats, with the team’s A boat finishing fourth and team’s B boat finishing seventh in a 13-boat field. The Hornets’ A posted a time of 18:45, and the team’s B boat finished at 18:58.

In the open four with 12 boats competing, Sacramento State’s B entry placed second with a time of 21:00 and the team’s A entry placed fourth at 21:17. In the pair, Sacramento State’s B placed second with a time of 22:06. A total of eight boats entered the pair, but three did not finish, including the Hornets’ A boat, which had their race come to an end after running into debris that was floating in the water.

Sacramento State will compete in its second of four fall regattas when it returns to the water on Oct. 27 to host the Head of the American at Lake Natoma.
