LaCROSSE, DeCINDIS AND HILL EACH RECEIVE ROWING HONORS

5/23/2007

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For the second straight year, senior rower Janine LaCrosse earned second team all-West Region honors while juniors Aleisha DeCindis and Krista Hill were both recipients of the National Scholar Athlete Award, it was announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

LaCrosse joins former Sacramento State rowers Mieke Boynton (four times, 1999-02) and Tammy Forbes (two times, 1999-00) as the three Hornets to earn all-region honors multiple times during their careers since the program gained intercollegiate status in 1995. Overall, LaCrosse became the 10th Hornet to be named all-region when she earned the honor last year.

DeCindis and Hill both earned the National Scholar Athlete Award for the first time in their careers. The award recognizes student-athletes with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, are at least a sophomore athletically, and have competed in 75 percent of the team's spring races.

LaCrosse, who was just one of 22 student-athletes on the West Coast to earn all-West Region honors, sat in the six seat with the Hornets' varsity eight in every race during the spring. The Gold River, Calif., native has competed with the team's top boat in every race each of the last two years, and was also a first team all-Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association selection last season. A government major and a sociology minor with a 3.38 gpa, LaCrosse will graduate this week.

In her second season with the Hornets, DeCindis competed with the second varsity eight, third varsity eight and varsity four boats this year. The Phoenix, Ariz., native rowed in the bow seat with all three boats, including with the second varsity eight at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships two weeks ago. A history major with a 3.66 gpa, DeCindis has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll during each of her semesters at Sacramento State.

In her third season at Sacramento State, Hill competed in the five seat with the varsity eight in every race this year, including two appearances in the three seat with the varsity four. Dating back to last year, the Napa, Calif., native has competed in 10 straight spring regattas with the Hornets' top boat. A double major (liberal studies and history) with a 3.65 gpa, Hill has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll in six of the seven semesters she has attended Sacramento State.

LaCrosse, DeCindis and Hill each contributed to Sacramento State winning it second consecutive WIRA team title this year. The WIRA's serve as the Hornets' conference championship regatta.
