ROWING SWEEPS ALL SIX OF ITS RACES AT THE SACRAMENTO STATE INVITATIONAL

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Sacramento State’s women’s varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four, second varsity four and novice four each placed first in their respective races Saturday morning at the Sacramento State Rowing Invitational on Lake Natoma.

The Hornets won five of the six races by at least five seconds as the Sacramento State Invitational also included Saint Mary’s, Santa Clara, Sonoma State, Humboldt State, Cal’s Lightweights, Stanford’s Lightweights and Mills College.

In the varsity eight, Sacramento State raced to a 2,000-meter first place time of 7:05.5, followed by Saint Mary’s (7:16.0), Stanford Lightweights (7:16.6), Santa Clara (7:25.2), Sonoma State (7:37.7), Humboldt State (7:40.0) and Cal’s Lightweights (7:45.6). With the victories, the Hornets improved their dual-meet record to 7-0 this season and extended its winning streak to 29-consecutive dual victories dating back to 2003.

In the second varsity eight, Sacramento State’s A boat posted a winning time of 7:10.1, followed by Sacramento State B (7:20.1), Saint Mary’s (7:27.5) and Santa Clara (7:37.8). The Hornets’ JV8 improved its dual meet record this year to 3-0.

In the novice eight competition, the Hornets raced to a winning time of 7:28.28, followed by Humboldt State (7:33.52), Santa Clara (7:40.63), Saint Mary’s (7:53.10), Sonoma State (7:58.98), Pacific (8:04.03) and Mills College (8:25.92). Sacramento State’s novice eight now has a perfect 7-0 dual-meet record, and has won 24 straight duals dating back to 2005.

Other first-place times for the Hornets included the varsity four (7:41.4), second varsity four (8:03.1) and novice four (8:27.82).

Sacramento State returns to the water tomorrow (March 11) when the team hosts San Diego State on Lake Natoma. Racing begins at 8 a.m., and runs until approximately 10:15 a.m.

SECOND VARSITY EIGHT (B): Katie Bossenmaier at coxswain, Dani Thole at stroke, Catherine Woerner at seven, Alicia Tarkenton at six, Sherry Payne at five, Kyle Johnston at four, Sandra Miller at three, Nicole Cavanagh at two and Aleisha DeCindis at bow.

NOVICE EIGHT: Erin DeGoede at coxswain, Alyse Marlatt at stroke, Michelle Stern at seven, Victoria Jackson at six, Kayla Wright at five, Natalie Thomas at four, Molly Davis at three, Jenna Tofanelli at two, Kaitlin Schnaars at bow.
