SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s rowing program completed its coaching staff on Monday by hiring Laura Macfarlane as assistant coach.

Macfarlane, who will serve as an assistant to head coach Bill Zack, will be responsible for all aspects of the coaching of the novice squad as well as on-campus recruiting.

The Madison, Wis., native spent the past school year (1999-2000) as the assistant novice women’s rowing coach at the University of Wisconsin. While with the Badgers, she was responsible for assisting the novice coach in the workouts, preparation and coaching for a team of 75 student-athletes.

A 2000 graduate of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in cartography and geographical information science, Macfarlane rowed four years with the Badgers including three with the varsity squad. She was a member of the Badger varsity eight which won the Intercollegiate Rowing Association championship in 1998 and the Midwest championship in 1999. As a senior, she was team MVP and a first team all-Central Region selection.

She also competed with the USRowing Development Camp in five different events including the single scull, quadruple scull and the eight in the summers of 1998 and 1999.

Macfarlane replaces Christina Clinton, who served as assistant coach during the 1999-2000 season.
