The Hornets’ time of 6:40.6 over 2,000 meters eclipsed the team’s previous top mark this season of 6:42.10 set in a heat at the Cal Cup.

All three of the Hornets’ eights competed in the varsity eight race, with the Hornets’ varsity eight placing first, followed by the team’s second varsity eight (6:55.7), Long Beach State (6:56.3) and the Hornets’ novice eight (7:01.9). Sacramento State’s varsity eight improved to 7-0 this year in dual-meet action.

Today’s regatta served as a tuneup for the Hornets as they get ready to compete in next weekend’s Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships at Lake Natoma. The WIRA Championships serve as the team’s conference championship.

Two other races took place today, including a varsity four and a second varsity four competition. The Hornets won the varsity four competition with a time of 7:26.5, and the second varsity four competition with a time of 8:06.4
