Sacramento State, which advanced to the grand final yesterday after posting the fastest of any of the three heat times, rowed to a fourth-place finish of 7:12.12 over 2,000 meters. Miami won the event with a time of 7:05.30, followed by Kansas State (7:08.58), St. Joseph’s (7:10.87), Sacramento State, Navy (7:14.68) and UC Davis (7:17.61).

The top two boats from each of the three varsity eight heats yesterday advanced to the grand final, and Sacramento State finished first in its heat. The Hornets placed third in last year’s Cal Cup grand final. The team’s last Cal Cup championship came in 2000.

The Hornets’ second varsity eight and novice eight both wrapped up their competitions yesterday with each posting a first-place finish in their respective third finals.

Sacramento State returns to the water next Saturday, April 8, as it travels to West Sacramento to take on UC Davis for the Jean Runyon Cup. The Hornets’ varsity eight has defeated the Aggies each of the last seven years to win the Cup.
