Six of the Hornets’ seven victorious boats won by at least seven seconds as the Sacramento State Invitational also included Humboldt State, Saint Mary’s, Sonoma State, Cal’s Lightweights, Stanford’s Lightweights and Cal Maritime.

The first half of the day, which was bitterly cold with a light head wind, featured each of the eights competitions before temperatures and winds leveled off for the fours races.

In the varsity eight, Sacramento State improved its dual-meet record to 4-0 this season after racing to a 2,000-meter first place time of 6:56.4. Following the Hornets were Saint Mary’s (7:03.5), Sonoma State (7:29.2) and Humboldt State (7:41.9).

In the second varsity eight competition, the Hornets raced to a first-place time of 7:16.3, followed by Stanford’s Lightweights (7:29.5), Saint Mary’s (7:31.0) and Humboldt State (7:41.6).

Sacramento State’s novice eight improved to 5-0 in dual meets with a winning time of 7:20.6, followed by Sonoma State (7:34.1), Saint Mary’s (7:38.8), Humboldt State (7:46.8) and Cal’s Lightweights (7:50.7).

Other first-place times for the Hornets included the second novice eight (5:38.2 in a race shortened to 1,500 meters), varsity four (7:37.9), varsity lightweight four (7:43.9) and novice four (7:58.5).

The Hornets return to action tomorrow (Sunday, March 12) as the team welcomes San Diego State to the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.
