ROWING POSTS FOUR TOP FOUR FINISHES AT THE HEAD OF THE AMERICAN

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – In its second regatta of the fall season, the Sacramento State women''s varsity eight finished fourth out of 17 schools in the Open Eight competition at the Head of the American Saturday afternoon at Lake Natoma.

Sacramento State''s varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, novice eight and second novice eight each competed in today''s regatta, and the team combined to accumulate a third-place finish and three fourth-place finishes.

In the Open Eight competition, the Hornets'' varsity eight finished the three-mile course with a time of 17:32, trailing USC (16:47), Cal "A" (17:25) and Cal "B" (17:26). Sacramento State''s second varsity eight finished 10th with a time of 18:36.

In the women''s novice collegiate eight event featuring 12 boats, Sacramento State placed two boats in the top four. Cal and Stanford won the event with identical times of 18:58, followed by Sacramento State "A" (19:25) and Sacramento State "B" (20:20).

In the women''s open four event which featured eight teams, USC won with a time of 19:16, followed by Cal (19:59), Cal Lightweights (20:24), Sacramento State (21:14) and Sonoma State (21:32) to round out the top five.

Today''s competition marked the second of three fall regattas for Sacramento State as the team returns to the water next Sunday (Nov. 6) for the Newport Fall Regatta in Newport Beach, Calif.
