ROWING STAYS PERFECT FOR 2005 WITH ANOTHER CONVINCING VICTORY

3/20/2005

Sacramento State''s varsity eight (above) improved to 14-0 in dual meets over the last two years with Sunday''s victory
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. -The Sacramento State women''s rowing squad remained undefeated in 2005 as the Hornets wrapped up the WCC Challenge with another convincing victory Sunday morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.

The Hornets'' varsity eight had little trouble against San Diego, finishing the 2,000-meter course in 6:47.5, almost 15 seconds faster than the Toreros (7:02.4). Sacramento State''s time of 6:47.5 was just one tenth of a second slower than its season-best time of 6:47.4, set against Santa Clara two weeks ago.

In the second varsity eight competition, the Hornets posted a winning time of 7:12.9, easily knocking off Loyola Marymount (7:25.4). The novice eight competition was handled with ease as well as the Hornets (7:24.1) beat Stanford''s second varsity lightweight eight boat (7:48.5) by more than 24 seconds.

Sacramento State''s varsity eight improved to 7-0 in dual meets this season while the Hornets'' second varsity eight moved to 4-0. In fact, both boats have not lost a dual meet since the 2003 season as the varsity eight is 14-0 over the last two years and the second varsity eight is 8-0. The Hornets'' novice eight improved to 9-0 this year as the team''s top three boats are now a combined 20-0 this season.

Not only is the team undefeated this year, but each win has come in convincing fashion. In fact, Sacramento State has won each race this season in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight categories by at least 8.6 seconds.

The two-day WCC Challenge consisted of boats from Sacramento State, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Stanford, Saint Mary''s, San Diego and Gonzaga.

The Hornets will take a week off before competing at the San Diego Crew Classic on April 2-3.
