ROWERS BROW AND HARDER RECEIVE POSTSEASON HONORS

5/21/2004

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State senior Stephanie Brow earned second team all-West Region honors and sophomore Laura Harder was among 25 West Region rowers to earn the National Scholar-Athlete Award, it was announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) today.

Brow becomes the first Sacramento State rower to receive all-region honors since Mike Boynton earned the award in 2002. A 5-9 native of Sacramento, Brow has competed with the Hornets'' varsity eight in every race over the last three years. She sat in the stroke seat of the team''s top boat in every race this season, and earned all-Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) honors for the second time in her career (2002).

Brow was named team MVP of the Hornets'' varsity squad this year and earned the team''s Most Outstanding Rower award in 2002 and 2003. The team co-captain, who has a 2,000-meter ergometer time of 7:13.9, will graduate with a criminal justice degree this week.

Harder competed with the Hornets'' varsity eight in every race this season, primarily in the five seat. A 5-10 native of Redlands, Calif., Harder becomes the sixth Sacramento State rower to earn CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honors over the last five years. She currently has a 3.81 gpa as an accounting major, the seventh-best grade point average among the West Coast rowers to earn the award.

To earn National Scholar-Athlete Award honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 gpa, competed in at least 75 percent of the season''s races in the varsity boat, and must be in at least their second year of eligibility.

Brow and Harder were both instrumental in the Hornets'' success this year on the water as they helped lead the varsity eight boat to a 7-0 dual-meet record, the program''s first-ever gold medal at the Dad Vail Regatta, and a silver medal at the WIRA Championships.
