The Hornets posted wins over both Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara. Loyola Marymount''s varsity eight, which are the defending Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) champions, was coming off a Cal Cup title at the San Diego Crew Classic two weeks ago prior to today''s loss to the Hornets.

In the varsity eight competition, Sacramento State (7:17.1) defeated Loyola Marymount (7:24.6) in one race, before the Hornets came back later in the day to knock off UC Santa Barbara by almost 20 seconds (7:11.0-7:30.9). The Hornets'' varsity eight remained undefeated in dual meets this spring as the boat is now a perfect 6-0.

In one of the two second varsity eight competitions, the Hornets raced to a winning time of 7:32.4 over 2,000 meters, followed USC''s novice eight boat (7:43.6) and Loyola Marymount (8:00.0). In the other race, Sacramento State (7:27.0) knocked off UC Santa Barbara (7:49.2) by more than 22 seconds. Like the varsity eight, the Hornets'' second varsity eight also remained undefeated in dual meets this spring (3-0).

Sacramento State''s novice eight was victorious with a time of 7:38.4, followed by UC Santa Barbara "A" (7:52.6) and UC Santa Barbara "B" (8:45.1). In the Hornets'' second novice eight race of the day, USC (7:41.5) narrowly defeated the Hornets (7:44.0).
