ROWING DEFEATS SANTA CLARA FOR THE JAMES FARWELL CUP

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s rowing team swept all four races (varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four and novice four) from Santa Clara to win the first-annual James Farwell Cup Saturday morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center.

The Hornets won each of the four races by at least 12 seconds, including the varsity eight winning by more than 17 seconds. The James Farwell Cup is named after the former longtime Santa Clara rower and coach who established the women''s rowing program at the University.

The Hornets'' varsity eight boat raced to a winning time of 6:53.1 over 2,000 meters, followed by Santa Clara (7:10.8) and Sacramento State "B" (7:11.5). The Hornets'' novice eight also won handily, posting a winning time of 7:24.6, followed by Santa Clara (7:37.2) and Sacramento State "B" (7:44.8).

In the varsity four competition, Sacramento State "A" raced to time of 7:41.1, followed by Sacramento State "B" (7:47.9) and Santa Clara (8:24.7). In the novice four race, Sacramento State won with a time of 8:08.5, followed by Sacramento State "B" (8:12.9), Santa Clara "A" (8:49.7) and Santa Clara "B" (8:56.7).

Sacramento State returns to the water on Saturday, March 13, as the team travels to the Port of Sacramento to take on UC Davis for the Jean Runyon Cup.

VARSITY EIGHT LINEUP: Katie Litvinchuk at bow, Lucy Roberts at the two seat, Sara Crain at three, Brittney Claycamp at four, Laura Harder at five, Adelle Reimer at six, Erika Bracy at seven, Stephanie Brow at stroke and Christina Clifton at coxswain.

SECOND VARSITY EIGHT LINEUP: Kira Morrison at bow, Coralie Wilhite at the two seat, April Hindt at three, Courtney Buehler at four, Steffanie Jakovac at five, Janine LaCrosse at six, Megan Foley at seven, Ashley Wayman at stroke and Cecilia Vina at coxswain.

NOVICE EIGHT LINEUP: Susan Williams at bow, Megan Williams at the two seat, Teresa Bitcon at three, Jenna Duale at four, Bre Craig at five, Stephanie Ridlon at six, Hindt at seven, LaCrosse at stroke and Jackie Seich at coxswain.

SECOND NOVICE EIGHT LINEUP: Ashley Borelli at bow, Marisa Lacampagne at the two seat, Hillary Bates at three, Emily Rios at four, Catherine Woerner at five, Melissa Murphy at six, Lindsey Wade at seven, Natalie Eagle at stroke and Liz Crettol at coxswain.

* LaCrosse and Hindt competed in both the second varsity eight and novice eight competitions for the Hornets.
