ROWING FINISHES FOURTH OUT OF 22 SCHOOLS AT THE NEWPORT FALL REGATTA

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Sacramento State women''s varsity eight finished fourth out of 22 schools while the novice eight rowed to a second-place finish Sunday morning at the Newport Fall Regatta at the Newport Aquatic Center.

The Hornets'' varsity eight completed the three-mile course with a time of 18:00, 39 seconds behind first-place USC (17:21). Sacramento State, which was fifth out of 21 schools at last week''s Head of the American, finished just seven seconds back of third-place UCLA (17:53).

The novice eight finished second out of 20 schools with a time of 18:37, while the second novice eight tied for 10th with a time of 19:59. San Diego State won the novice eight competition with a time of 18:02. Sacramento State also entered a boat in the open four as the squad finished sixth out of a 12-team field with a time of 19:46.

Head coach Mike Connors used the following varsity eight lineup: Christina Clifton at coxswain, Sarah McKenzie at stroke, Adelle Reimer at the seven seat, Stephanie Brow at six, Erika Bracy at five, Jamie Weatherfield at four, Katie Litvinchuk at three, Angela Tombolini at two and Chanel Patterson at bow.

Assistant coach Carrie Hagen used the following lineup for the first novice eight: Cecilia Vina at coxswain, Megan Foley at stroke, Steffanie Jakovac at seven, Brittney Claycamp at six, Laura Harder at five, Sarah Karling at four, Allie King at three, Leicha Van Zile at two and Alicia Arvonen at bow.

The second novice eight included Kristen Schoenborn at coxswain, Ashley Carl at stroke, Krystin Johnson at seven, Shannon Wagner at six, Janeen Goodwin at five, Monica Kantz at four, Maren MacAdam at three, Erin Gordon at two and Sarah Pond at bow.

The varsity four comprised Nicole Reyes at coxswain, Reimer at stroke, Jennifer Boyer at three, Bracy at two and Rebecca Hurtt at bow.

The Newport Fall Regatta marks Sacramento State''s second and final fall competition. The Hornets open up their spring schedule on Saturday, March 1, as they host Humboldt State, Mills College and Saint Mary''s at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
