The Hornets finished the Women''s Open Eight three-mile course with a time of 18:35. Stanford "A" rowed to a winning time of 17:14, followed by Cal "A" (17:44), Cal "B" (17:51) and Stanford "B" (18:23).

First-year head coach Mike Connors used the following varsity eight lineup: Christina Clifton at coxswain, Sarah McKenzie at stroke, Adelle Reimer at the seven seat, Stephanie Brow at six, Erika Bracy at five, Jamie Weatherfield at four, Susan Kulzer at three, Angela Tombolini at two and Chanel Patterson at bow.

The Hornets'' second varsity eight finished 19th with a time of 20:38. The lineup for that boat included Nicole Reyes at coxswain, Becky Hurtt at stroke, Katie Litvinchuk at seven, Jennifer Boyer at six, Steffanie Jakovic at five, Brittney Claycamp at four, Laura Harder at three, Megan Foley at two and Allie King at bow. Five of the competitors in the Hornets'' second varsity eight are members of the novice squad.

In the novice eight competition, Sacramento State finished fourth out of nine schools. The team would have finished third but its boat hit a duck and subsequently caught a crab just before the finish line. The Hornets crossed the three-mile finish line with a time of 20:40. UCLA won the novice eight with a time of 19:31, followed by Cal (20:10) and Cal''s lightweight crew (20:38).

Sacramento State returns to the water for its second and final fall race of the season Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Newport Fall Regatta. The team''s spring opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, as the Hornets host Humboldt State, Mills College and Saint Mary''s at Lake Natoma.
