WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento State novice four raced to a fifth-place finish at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (PCRC's) Saturday afternoon at a windy Lake Natoma. The novice four was the only event Sacramento State competed in today.San Diego State crossed the 2,000-meter finish line with a winning novice four time of 8:37.5, followed by UCLA (8:46.0), UC Davis (8:50.6), Chapman (9:10.6), Sacramento State (9:19.3) and Humboldt State (9:27.2). The Hornets advanced to the novice four grand final by finishing third in their morning heat with a time of 8:16.6
Sacramento State used the following lineup for today's races: Susan Kulzer at bow, Jodi Johnson at two, Dawn Warren at three, Kelsey Smith at stroke and Nicole Reyes at coxswain.
In other women's grand finals, Stanford (8:00.9) placed first in the varsity lightweight eight, UC Davis won both the novice lightweight four (9:20.2) and the Div. II second varsity eight (7:30.8), Cal placed first in both the open eight (7:41.7) and second novice eight (7:44.8), Humboldt State (8:53.9) was victorious in the varsity lightweight four, and Western Washington (7:25.9) won the Div. II varsity eight.
The PCRC's are open to all schools in the West Region, which includes any rowing institution located in the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado and Arizona. A total of 19 schools were represented at today's regatta.
Sacramento State closes the 2002 season tomorrow (Sunday, May 19) at the Pac-10 Championships as the Hornets' varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four will each compete. Tomorrow's regatta begins at 8:40 a.m. and will run to approximately 3:20 p.m.
