PHILADELPHIA – Sacramento State finished sixth in the women’s varsity heavyweight eight grand final at the Dad Vail Regatta Saturday afternoon on the Schuylkill River. The Hornets advanced to the grand final by placing second in their semifinal earlier in the day.A total of 45 schools from around the country competed in the competition. In the grand final, Massachusetts crossed the 2,000-meter finish line with a winning time of 6:39.3, followed by Villanova (6:42.7), Boston College (6:43.8), Lehigh (6:44.9), Army (6:55.7) and Sacramento State (7:00.2).
In the Hornets’ semifinal earlier in the day, Lehigh took first place with a time of 6:33.4, followed by Sacramento State (6:35.4), West Virginia (6:36.7), Rhode Island (6:42.8), Buffalo (6:43.8) and Temple (6:49.9). The top two boats from three semifinal races each advanced to the grand final.
The Hornets made the semifinals by handily winning their heat on Friday.
For the second-consecutive day, Sacramento State used the following lineup: Hannah Metzger at bow, Stephanie Brow at the two seat, Robyn Soliman at three, Veronica Karpinski at four, Adelle Reimer at five, Megan Warren at six, Megan Spitze at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain.
Sacramento State closes the season next weekend as it hosts the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on Saturday, May 18, and the Pac-10 Championships on Sunday, May 19.
