ROWING FINISHES FOURTH, WILL RACE IN PETITE FINAL OF TOMORROW'S S.D. CREW CLASSIC

SAN DIEGO – The Sacramento State women''s varsity eight raced to a fourth-place finish in its heat during the first day of competition at the San Diego Crew Classic, held at Mission Bay. The Hornets will race in tomorrow''s petite final (11:20 a.m.) against Loyola Marymount, San Diego, Villanova, San Diego State and North Carolina.

Sacramento State finished the 2,000-meter course with a time of 7:07.84, a little over nine seconds behind first-place Massachusetts (6:58.37). UMass was followed by SMU (7:01.16), Loyola Marymount (7:04.86), Sacramento State, Purdue (7:16.74), UC Irvine (7:24.46) and UC Santa Barbara (7:35.86). The Hornets had defeated Loyola Marymount by almost four seconds just two weeks ago.

In the second varsity eight competition, the Hornets finished fifth in their respective heat, before closing the day with a third-place finish in the third-level final. In its morning heat, Sacramento State finished with a time of 7:23.20 before racing to a time of 7:09.48 in the final, trailing Duke (7:05.26) and San Diego State (7:06.08).

In the novice eight competition, Sacramento State finished fifth in its morning heat (7:34.28) before closing the day with a second-place finish (7:13.84) in the third-level final.

Sacramento State''s varsity eight will race tomorrow while the second varsity eight and novice eight completed its respective competitions today.

Head coach Bill Zack used the following varsity eight lineup: Robyn Soliman at bow, Stephanie Brow at the two seat, Adelle Reimer at three, Veronica Karpinski at four, Erika Bracy at five, Megan Warren at six, Megan Spitze at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain.

Sacramento State''s second varsity eight lineup consisted of Chanel Patterson at bow, Rebecca Hurtt at two, Sheena Tahilramani at three, Angela Tombolini at four, Paula Clamurro at five, Pattie Shagam at six, Jamie Weatherfield at seven, Sarah McKenzie at stoke and Jenna DuBois at coxswain.

The novice eight lineup consisted of Susan Kulzer at bow, Jennifer Ives at two, Dawn Warren at three, Jodi Johnson at four, Kelsey Smith at five, Kirstie Smith at six, Hannah Metzger at seven, Katie Litvinchuk at stroke and Nicole Reyes at coxswain.
