ROWING IMPROVES TO 5-0 WITH TWO WINS AT THE SACRAMENTO STATE INVITE

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – The Sacramento State women''s varsity eight improved its dual-meet record to a perfect 5-0 with two victories today at the Sacramento State Invitational at the CSUS Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma. The Hornets defeated Indiana by five seconds before coming back later in the day to knock off Stanford''s lightweight crew by more than seven seconds.

Against Indiana during the morning session, Sacramento State''s varsity eight finished the rainy 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:55.1, followed by the Hoosiers'' time of 7:00.1. In the afternoon session, the Hornets crossed the finish line with a time of 7:16.5, followed by Stanford''s lightweight crew (7:23.8) and Cal''s lightweight crew (8:00.8).

The Hornets'' varsity eight has now won seven-consecutive dual meets dating back to last season. Today''s lineup against Indiana consisted of Robyn Soliman at bow, Stephanie Brow at the two seat, Erika Bracy at three, Veronica Karpinski at four, Adelle Reimer at five, Megan Warren at six, Megan Spitze at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain. Against Stanford and Cal, Chanel Patterson took Soliman''s place in bow while Karpinski moved to the six seat and Sarah McKenzie assumed the four.

In the second varsity eight competition, Sacramento State dropped two races to Cal as the Bears'' third varsity (6:55.2) defeated the Hornets (7:18.0) in the morning session. Cal''s second varsity eight (7:08.1) beat the Hornets (7:33.4) later in the afternoon.

Sacramento State''s second varsity eight lineup in the morning session consisted of Patterson at bow, Rebecca Hurtt at two, Sheena Tahilramani at three, Angela Tombolini at four, Paula Clamurro at five, Karen Donaldson at six, Jamie Weatherfield at seven, Sarah McKenzie at stoke and Christina Clifton at coxswain. During the afternoon, Hannah Metzger (three seat), Pattie Shagam (six seat) and Jenna DuBois (coxswain) were inserted into the boat.

The Hornets dropped both novice eight races, losing to Indiana (7:14.4 - 7:16.8) in the morning and Cal (7:50.1 - 7:55.5) during the afternoon. Sacramento State used a pair of lineups consisting of Metzger, Dawn Warren, Jodi Johnson, Jessica Davis, Jennifer Ives, Kirstie and Kelsey Smith, Katie Litvinchuk, Susan Kulzer and Nicole Reyes.

The Hornets return to action tomorrow for the second day of the Sacramento State Invitational as the varsity eight faces Loyola Marymount, the second varsity eight takes on Loyola Marymount and UC Davis, and the novice eight competes against UC Davis.
