RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - For the second-consecutive year,
Washington's women's varsity eight was crowned Pacific-10 champions
after rowing to a 2,000-meter time of 6:40.6 in the grand final
Sunday afternoon at the CSUS Aquatic Center.
The Huskies finished 3.1 seconds faster than second-place USC
(6:43.7). Cal finished third with a time of 6:51.0, followed by
Stanford (6:58.4), Washington State (7:05.0) and Oregon State
(7:11.6).
Sacramento State finished second in the varsity eight petite
final with a time of 7:17.4, 2.4 seconds slower than first-place
Western Washington (7:15.0). The Hornets advanced to the petite final
after finishing third in their qualifying heat earlier in the day.
The top two teams in each of the three qualifying heats advanced to
the grand final while places three and four in each heat raced in the
petite final.
Washington was also victorious in the women's second varsity eight grand final, racing to a time of 7:06.8, 3.6 seconds faster than second-place Washington State (7:10.4).
Today's race marked the final competition for Sacramento State this season. The Hornets' varsity eight finished the year with a 5-3 dual-meet record and a Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association championship.
Earlier in the day, Sacramento State's second varsity eight
finished fourth in the petite final with a time of 7:56.2 and the
novice eight (7:39.9) finished second in its petite final, 0.2
seconds back of first-place San Diego State (7:39.7).
