RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s varsity eight defeated UC Davis by 7.8 seconds to claim the Jean Runyon Cup for the third-consecutive year Saturday morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center.
The Hornets, who have now defeated the Aggies four times in the five years the teams have raced for the cup, finished the 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:47.5, followed by UC Davis (6:55.3). With the victory, Sacramento State improved its dual-meet record to 5-3.
For the sixth-consecutive race, the Hornets'' varsity eight lineup consisted of Katie Summy at bow, Alicia Weber at the two seat, Veronica Karpinski at three, Erika Bracy at four, Tammy Forbes at five, Megan Warren at six, Megan Spitze at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain.
UC Davis was victorious in the second varsity eight with a time of 7:10.3, followed by Sacramento State''s time of 7:26.4. In the varsity four, the Aggies finished first with a time of 8:11.2, followed by Sacramento State "A" (8:28.8) and Sacramento State "B" (8:33.0).
The Hornets return to the water next weekend when they host the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships on Saturday, May 12, and the Pacific 10 Championships on Sunday, May 13.
