RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s rowing team
improved its dual-meet record to 4-3 as the varsity eight defeated
the University of Cincinnati by more than seven seconds Sunday
morning at the CSUS Aquatic Center.
Sacramento State''s varsity eight finished the 2,000-meter course with
a time of 6:47.8, followed by Cincinnati (6:55.3). The Hornets, who
won their second-consecutive Western Intercollegiate Rowing
Association championship yesterday, had lost their previous three
dual meets to Stanford, Washington State and Texas, respectively.
The Hornets'' varsity eight lineup consisted of Katie Summy at bow,
Alicia Weber at the two seat, Veronica Karpinski at three, Erika
Bracy at four, Tammy Forbes at five, Megan Warren at six, Megan
Spitze at seven, Mieke Boynton at stroke and Breanne Hart at coxswain.
Cincinnati was victorious in the second varsity eight with a time of
7:09.6, followed by Sacramento State''s time of 7:28.7. In the novice
eight, Cincinnati''s time of 7:12.6 was more than 22 seconds faster
than Sacramento State (7:35.1).
The Hornets return to the water next Saturday, May 5, as they take on
UC Davis for the Jean Runyon Cup.
