Alicia Tarkenton, who competed four years for the Sacramento State rowing squad, will begin her second season as a member of the team’s coaching staff. Tarkenton also served as a graduate assistant with the program during the 2009-10 academic year.
This season, she will assist head coach Mike Connors with the varsity squad while also overseeing the team’s varsity four boat.
As a student-athlete, Tarkenton competed for the Hornets from 2005-09, sitting with the second novice eight, novice eight, third varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and varsity eight during the course of her career.
As a senior, the Copperopolis, Calif., native sat in the four seat with the varsity eight in each of the boat’s final 14 races of the season. That year, the varsity eight won a silver medal at the WIRA Championships and finished the season with a 10-4 dual-meet record.
Tarkenton won a medal at the WIRA Championships three times during her career, including silver at the WIRA Championships as a senior, bronze with the second varsity eight as a junior (four seat), and bronze with the novice eight as a freshman (six seat). She also won a gold medal with teammate Megan Riggs in the pair at the Masters National Championships in the summer of 2008.
Tarkenton graduated from Sacramento State in the spring of 2010 with a degree in family and consumer sciences.
