After serving as an assistant coach with first-year Hornets head coach Bunky Harkleroad at Glenville State, Kim Stephens has joined the Sacramento State women's basketball coaching staff.
Stephens played for Harkleroad for three seasons before joining the Glenville State staff last year, giving her familiarity with the non-traditional playing style both as a player learning the system and as a coach teaching it.
She helped with all aspects of the women's basketball program as the lone assistant coach at Glenville State, including strength and conditioning, on-court skill development, and recruiting. She also served as the team's travel coordinator and was its academic liaison.
Stephens was a team captain for the 2010-11 Glenville State team won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. She was also named the WVIAC Student-Athlete of the Year for Glenville State that season and academically made the WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll as a junior and senior.
Prior to joining Harkleroad's staff at Glenville State, Stephens was a graduate assistant coach at Ohio Valley University where she earned a master's degree in education. She also has experience as an AAU coach and as a camp counselor in basketball camps at Glenville State and the Future & Elite Sports Center.
A native of Parkersburg, W. Va., Stephens graduated from Glenville State in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in psychology. She earned her master's in education from Ohio Valley in 2012 and is also a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association.
