HANNAH FRIEND NAMED BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior guard Hannah Friend was named the Big Sky Conference's co-Player of the Week after leading the Sacramento State women's basketball team to its first ever win over a Big Ten program in the ShareSLO Holiday Classic tournament.

Friend paced the Hornets with 26.5 points per game last week while also pulling in 6.5 rebounds per game. She added four steals, three assists, and a block over the two games, as well. She shot 44.2% from the floor in two games, including 34.6% from beyond the arc.

Through three games this season, Friend is averaging 26.0 points per game, the third highest mark in all NCAA Div. I women's basketball.

Last Friday, Friend, started the week with a 20-point performance against Pepperdine. She pulled in eight rebounds in the effort for the Hornets.

She followed that with a 33-point performance on Saturday as the Hornets defeated the Big Ten's Illinois, giving the team its first win against a Big Ten program.

For Friend, the 33 points were just one off of her career high (34 vs. UC Riverside, 11/27/17). She was 11-for-25 overall (44%) and made a career-high seven three-point field goals (7-16).

Friend and teammate Tiara Scott, who averaged 23.5 points and seven assists, were both named to the weekend's all-tournament team for their performances.

The Big Sky honor is the second in Friend's career as she was also the Big Sky Player of the Week on Feb. 13, 2018. The award is the first of the year by a Sacramento State player.

After a breakout first season with Sacramento State last year in which she led the Hornets with 17.5 points per game, Friend is off to a blistering start to the 2018-19 season. Through three games, Friend is averaging 26.0 points per game, the third highest mark in all NCAA Div. I women's basketball. She is also averaging 7.3 rebounds while playing just 25 minutes per game.

The Hornets, who are 2-1, will look for their first 3-1 start since the 2013-14 season when they host the University of Antelope Valley on Saturday, Dec. 1. Tip off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 2:05 pm PT. More information is available online at HornetSports.com.
