DOUGHTY RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE, BUT WOMEN’S HOOPS COMES UP JUST SHORT AT UNDEFEATED DAVIS

DAVIS, Calif. – Senior forward Kyhonta Doughty recorded her first double-double of the season and Hannah Friend put up 25 points as the Hornets went toe-to-toe with undefeated UC Davis. In the end, the Aggies were able to fend off the Hornets just long enough to hand Sacramento State their first loss at Davis since 2011, 79-72.

Doughty scored 16 points and pulled in 10 rebounds while logging a season-high 29 minutes in the effort, surpassing her previous high of 27 minutes at Morehead State. Her 16 points and 10 rebounds were also new season-highs. She was 6-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Hannah Friend put up a team-high 25 points for the Hornets while shooting 6-of-10 from three. It was her second straight game with at least 20 points and her third such game in her last four. She turned it on in the second half, at one point scoring 10 straight during a 12-0 Hornets run. For Friend, it was her fifth time this season leading the team in scoring.

Both teams traded blows in the first half with neither team ever taking more than a six-point lead. Sacramento State had a lot of great looks early, but was unable to convert, shooting just 25% (6-24) in the first quarter and 11-41 in the first half. The half ended on an Aggies jumper, giving Davis a four-point lead going into the break.

The Aggies then opened up as much as a 15-point lead in the third quarter, but the Hornets put together a 12-0 run to even the score at 54 in the opening seconds of the fourth period. Friend scored 10 of those 12 points, including three sharp three-pointers.

Sophomore guard Tiara Scott led the team with seven assists, her second straight game leading the squad. She also did not commit a turnover while playing a career-high 37 minutes. In Sacramento State's last three games, Scott has played 31, 35, and 37 minutes consecutively.

Overall, the Hornets shot 37.7% (26-69) from the floor, although they were 11-for-26 (42.3%) from three. They pulled down 39 rebounds and had 16 assists compared to 12 turnovers. Sacramento State forced the Aggies into 12 turnovers, as well.

UC Davis shot 47.5% (28-59) in the game while also collecting 39 boards. They were led by Morgan Bertsch, a junior forward who scored 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting. She also had seven rebounds, matching Rachel Nagel for the team lead.

Tonight's game ends a stretch of seven games away from the Nest to open the 2017-18 season for women's hoops. The Hornets will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 6 when they host Antelope Valley. Tip off is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
