Having played 17 road games and just nine home games this season, the Sacramento State women’s basketball team (12-14, 10-5 Big Sky) gets to close the regular season with three straight contests at home, starting with a game at noon Saturday vs. Portland State (3-23, 1-14 Big Sky)

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OUTLASTS NORTH DAKOTA, CLINCHES BIG SKY BERTH
Sacramento State had a huge first half and led by as many as 19 points early in the second half and the Hornets were able to fend off a late push by North Dakota to finish a 64-62 win on Saturday in Grand Forks.

NORTHERN COLORADO RALLIES TO TOP WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 78-76
Sacramento State led by 10 points midway through the second half and was still up eight with five minutes to play but Northern Colorado ended the game on a 12-2 run, holding the Hornets scoreless over the last three minutes to pick up a 78-76 win on Thursday in Greeley.

After spending most of the non-conference season and the first have of Big Sky play on the road Sacramento State (11-13, 9-4 Big Sky) plays its final road games of the season this week at Northern Colorado (13-11, 7-6 Big Sky) on Thursday and North Dakota (16-9, 8-5 Big Sky) on Saturday.

HILLIARD’S NEAR TRIPLE-DOUBLE LEADS WOMEN’S HOOPS PAST IDAHO 92-84
Sacramento State senior point guard Fantasia Hilliard narrowly missed a triple-double with 22 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists and the Hornets hit 19 three-pointers as a team in a 92-84 win over Idaho.

WOMEN’S HOOPS LOOKS FOR SEASON SWEEP OF IDAHO SATURDAY IN THE NEST
Sacramento State (10-13, 8-4 Big Sky) looks to rebound from a narrow one-point loss to Eastern Washington on Thursday as it hosts Big Sky newcomer Idaho (10-12, 4-7 Big Sky) at 2 p.m. Saturday in The Nest. The contest will be the team’s annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness.

WOMEN’S HOOPS TOPS BIG SKY STEALS RECORD IN 92-60 ROUT OF PORTLAND ST
Sacramento State forced 38 turnovers with 30 steals, topping the Big Sky record for steals in a game, and outscored Portland State 47-2 in points off turnovers in a 92-60 rout on Saturday night in Portland.

HILLIARD ON LIEBERMAN AWARD WATCH LIST FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR
For the second consecutive season Sacramento State senior point guard Fantasia Hilliard has been named to the watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given annually to the top point guard in NCAA Div. I, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OUTLASTED IN NAIL BITER AT MONTANA
Sacramento State stormed back from down 15 points to take an 86-84 lead with two minutes to play, but Montana made key shots and the Hornets missed their last five field goal attempts as the Lady Griz ended the game on a 10-0 run for a 94-86 win.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WIN STREAK HALTED BY MONTANA STATE
Sacramento State forced 31 Montana State turnovers but the Bobcats shot 57.6% and outrebounded the Hornets 63-32 while leading wire-to-wire in a 91-64 win on Thursday night in Bozeman, ending Sacramento State’s seven game winning streak.

HILLIARD NAMED BIG SKY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After averaging 18.5 points per game to lead Sacramento State to a pair of road Big Sky wins, Sacramento State senior point guard Fantasia Hilliard has been named Big Sky Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. It is the first such honor for the Hornets this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LEADS BIG SKY AFTER 73-67 WIN AT EASTERN WASHINGTON
In a battle between the top two teams in the Big Sky standings Sacramento State trailed 67-65 with less than a minute to play but ended the game on an 8-0 run to give Eastern Washington its first conference loss of the year and end its seven-game winning streak, 73-67.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OFF TO BEST BIG SKY START AFTER 107-89 WIN AT IDAHO
Facing Idaho for the first time as a member of the Big Sky conference, Sacramento State made 18 three-pointers and had a 51-46 rebounding advantage to score a 107-89 win on Thursday night in Moscow.

After home wins over North Dakota and Northern Colorado the Sacramento State women’s basketball team (5-10, 3-1 Big Sky) takes its three-game conference winning streak on the road to face Big Sky newcomer Idaho (7-7, 1-2 Big Sky) at 6 p.m. Thursday and conference-leading Eastern Washington (10-4, 3-0 Big Sky) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

WOMEN’S HOOPS 3-1 IN BIG SKY AFTER 76-71 WIN OVER NORTHERN COLORADO
Sacramento State led by 14 points in the second half before a 19-2 Northern Colorado run put the Bears ahead, but the Hornets responded with a 13-2 run of their own and were able to hold on for a 76-71 win Saturday in The Nest.

After handing Big Sky favorite North Dakota its first conference loss of the season on Thursday the Sacramento State women’s basketball team (4-10, 2-1 Big Sky) is back in The Nest at 2 p.m. Saturday to host Northern Colorado (8-6, 2-1 Big Sky).

WOMEN’S HOOPS BEATS DEFENDING BIG SKY CHAMP NORTH DAKOTA, 93-86
Four Hornets scored 16 or more points and Sacramento State shot a blistering 48.4% overall and was 9-of-18 (50%) from 3-point range to defeat defending Big Sky champion North Dakota, 93-86, on Thursday in The Nest.

Having played just one home game over the last six weeks and 10 of its first 13 games of the season on the road, Sacramento State (3-10, 1-1 Big Sky) opens its Big Sky home schedule at 7 p.m. Thursday hosting defending conference champion North Dakota (10-4, 2-0 Big Sky). The Hornets will also host Northern Colorado (7-6, 1-1 Big Sky) at 2 p.m. Saturday as four of their next six games will take place in The Nest.

DEFENSIVE EFFORT LEADS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PAST SOUTHERN UTAH, 69-67
In a game with eight ties and 10 lead changes Sacramento State held Southern Utah scoreless over the last three minutes and 39 seconds of the game and made five free throws over that stretch to pull out a 69-67 win on Saturday night.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS BIG SKY OPENER AT NORTHERN ARIZONA
Sacramento State was held to a season-low 60 points while shooting just 27.8% from the field as Northern Arizona used a strong second half to pick up a 64-60 win on Thursday. The Hornets made just two field goals over the last 10 minutes of the game as the Lumberjacks pulled out the victory.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS BIG SKY CONFERENCE PLAY ON THE ROAD
After playing eight of their 11 non-conference games on the road Sacramento State (2-9) begins Big Sky Conference play on the road as well. The Hornets will open the Big Sky season on New Years Day at 1 p.m. at Northern Arizona (4-7) before taking on Southern Utah (6-3) at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Sacramento State led by 10 points at the half after shooting 42% in the first period but the Hornets shot just 25% in the second half and were 2-of-22 (9.1%) from 3-point range as San Jose State pulled out a 102-94 victory.

After nearly a month since their last home game the Sacramento State women’s basketball team (1-8) finally returns to The Nest to host Utah State (3-7) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Hornets will then go back on the road to conclude their non-conference schedule facing former head coach Jamie Craighead and San José State (5-4) on Monday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COMES CLOSE AGAIN BUT FALLS SHORT AT USC, 101-99
Senior Fantasia Hilliard equaled her career high with 28 points and the Hornets led by as many as 11 points in the second half before USC used a 13-2 run to pull even and was able to finish off a 101-99 win on Sunday in Los Angeles.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PUSHES UCLA BUT TAKES A SLIM 92-83 LOSS
Sacramento State trailed UCLA by just two points with nine minutes to play and was still within four points in the final two minutes but wasn’t able to draw even or pull ahead as the Bruins escaped with a 92-83 win on Friday night in Pauley Pavilion.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CONCLUDES PAC-12 STRETCH AT UCLA AND USC
Sacramento State (1-6) concludes a stretch of four consecutive games against Pac-12 opponents with two more challenging matchups this weekend in Los Angeles. The Hornets will play at UCLA (2-4) at 7 p.m. Friday and take on USC (6-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m.

No. 17 Oregon State won its 14th consecutive home game dating back to last year and improved to 7-0 on the season after building an early lead and running away with a 109-61 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday in Corvallis.

The Hornets are in the midst of four straight games against Pac-12 teams, having started the challenging run with a 107-94 loss at No. 10 California on Wednesday.

The Sacramento State women’s basketball team (1-4) opens a stretch of four consecutive games against Pac-12 opponents on Wednesday with an 11 a.m. matinee at No. 10 California (6-0). The Golden Bears will be the first ranked opponent of the Hornets since 2011 and will be just the first top-25 draw for Sacramento State this week before the team plays at No. 17 Oregon State on Saturday.

Sacramento State led by as many as 11 points in the first half and held a 47-40 halftime lead, but the Hornets shot just 24.4 % in the second half and were 5-of-25 (20 %) from 3-point range as UC Davis emerged with a 90-82 win in the annual Causeway Cup battle between the teams.

Freshman Maranne Johnson scored a career-high 14 points but Sacramento State shot just 7-of-35 (20.0 %) from three-point range and had three players foul out by the middle of the second half as the Hornets were defeated by CSUN 81-66 on Sunday in northern Los Angeles.

Sacramento State senior point guard Fantasia Hilliard became just the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 career points but as a team the Hornets shot just 28.0% for the game and took a 99-91 loss in their season opener at San Diego State.
