WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PICKED SIXTH BY MEDIA, NINTH BY COACHES IN BIG SKY
OGDEN, Utah. – The Sacramento State women's basketball team has been selected sixth by the media and ninth by the coaches in the preseason Big Sky Women's Basketball polls, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Hornets garnered 186 points in the media poll to be selected to finish above Portland State, Southern Utah, North Dakota, Northern Arizona, and Weber State in the 11-team conference. The conference coaches placed three of those schools ahead of Sacramento State with just Northern Arizona and Weber State behind, though only four votes separated the Hornets from Portland State and North Dakota.
Eastern Washington, which finished third in the conference last season, was picked to win the Big Sky in both polls followed by defending Big Sky champion Montana, Northern Colorado, Montana State, and Idaho State.
Sacramento State returns three starters and six letter winners from its 2012-13 squad that advanced to the Big Sky Championship for the second consecutive season and earned the program's second all-time postseason win, finishing with a 19-12 record to equal the 1990-91 squad for the most wins in a season in program-history.
The Hornets return their starting backcourt in seniors Alle Moreno and Se'Nyce Parrish and junior Fantasia Hilliard, who helped the team set program records last season in field goals made (842), assists (523), and fewest turnovers (499).
Paired with the returners are an exciting incoming class that will continue to play an up-tempo style under first year head coach Bunky Harkleroad.
