FULLERTON, Calif. – The Sacramento State women's basketball team cut the CSU Fullerton lead to nine points with just over five minutes to play but the Titans pulled away to hand the Hornets a 94-75 loss in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon at Titan Gym.
The Hornets (0-2) brought the CSU Fullerton lead to single digits, 77-68, on junior ' three-pointer with 5:24 left in the game but the Titans used a 12-1 run over the next three minutes to push their lead up 20 points and put the game away.
The Hornets saw four players score in double figures, including two bench players. Reserves Se'nyce Parrish and Clements each had a team-high 15 points on 11-of-23 combined shooting. Starting guards and each posted 11 points. Hilliard also had a team-high seven assists.
Senior forward , who scored 14 points with nine rebounds off the bench in the season opener on Friday night at Long Beach State, made her first career start against the Titans on Sunday and tallied eight points in 20 minutes. Fellow senior , who recorded 21 double-doubles last season, fell just short on Sunday with seven points and nine rebounds.
CSU Fullerton had five players score in double figures, led by Chante Miles' game-high 19 points. Alex Thomas posted 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting off the bench.
Sacramento State shot 48.6 percent overall on 27-of-70 shooting, including 7-of-25 from three-point range. The Hornets snagged 36 rebounds, committed 16 turnovers – after committing 30 at LBSU – and tallied 12 assists. They went 14-of-21 at the free throw line.
CSU Fullerton shot 44.6 percent from the field on 37-of-83 shooting, with 9-of-22 coming from beyond the arc. The Titans grabbed 58 rebounds – 22 more than the Hornets – and were pressured into 19 turnovers with 16 assists. They went 11-of-15 at the free throw line.
Sacramento State has one more road game before playing its 2012-13 season opener. The Hornets will visit CSU Bakersfield on Nov. 16 before playing host to Utah Valley on Nov. 20 for their first home game of the season.
